MDRN's Litigation team has extensive experience in matters under the Domestic Violence Act and Peace & Good Behaviour Act. Any person may bring an application in the Magistrates Court where domestic violence or threats or fear is evident.
The Police Service assists in serving and prosecuting such applications although there is a substantial focus on negotiated results. Restraining orders are usually made, and can be of all sorts of restraints. The Police Service and Courts are extremely concerned to ensure that Restraining Orders are complied with.
Neighbourhood type disputes are very similar in procedure under the Peace and Good Behaviour Act. The Justice Department also provides a very good mediation service under the Community Justice Program for such matters.
